CAR COLLECTIVE
2023
This project endeavors to address transportation challenges in urban settings by proposing a realistic and sustainable solution. The project encompasses elements of urban planning and presents a succinct proposal for a parking facility.
The chosen focus area is the established neighborhood of Frederiksbjerg in Aarhus, where the number of registered cars exceeds available parking spaces, leading to tensions between car owners and non-car owners. Additionally, Aarhus municipality is transitioning away from surface parking towards decentralized parking facilities. My objective was to explore innovative transportation initiatives and propose an economically, Environmentally, socially, and thereby politically sustainable solution to Aarhus’ current parking dilemma.
The proposed solution entails a circular mobility hub designed for shared vehicles. Functionally, the hub serves as a station building equipped with pick-up points for public and private transportation, vehicle service stations, accommodations, and retail spaces. Unlike traditional parking facilities, the focus lies on providing parking for car-sharing companies or individuals willing to share their vehicles with others.
Furthermore, the envisioned future role of the parking facility involves serving as an automated station building compatible with potential advancements in self-driving vehicle technology.
