SPACEJAM
2021
This project was my first assignment of my beginning Master years. SpaceJam was build for a performance, to match an artistic expression curated by Artist Esben Weile Kjær, during the opening of the new Aarhus School of Architecture.
We didn’t really know in the beginning in what way the audience, Esben (as performer) or we as makers would relate to the sculpture, so in a way it was important that the function or the interactive part was clear. We talked about different sports, and how people connect, relate and interact through sports. In the end it was a coincidental find of a basket hoop at re-use in Aarhus which aspired the sculpture. The materials of the sculpture are made to reflect the school, a combination of rather cheep materials wound up looking expensive through precision and form. We’ve used a round mirror as the backboard, which makes the whole thing look a bit more like an interior product. We hoped to touch the theme of “self-staging” while making a design that was also relating to context of the newbuild school.
